Easy Delicious Candied Yams

I love to cook and I love it when there is a dish that is good and simple to make. I discovered an easy way to make candied yams and I just wanted to share. Now there are probably a thousand different ways to make yams but this recipe is my favorite.

You will need 4 large yams, 1 stick of butter, 1/2 cup of white sugar, 1/2 cup light brown sugar, 1/4 cup of molasses,1/4 cup of orange juice, 1/4 teaspoon of each (nutmeg, ginger, and cinnamon) 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/4 teaspoon of hazelnut extract salt, black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice.

I have discovered that sweet potatoes peel better once they have been boiled. After washing the potatoes place them in a large pot of boiling water for 15 minutes. After boiling, drain the pot and run cold water over the potatoes too cool. Let them cool for about 10 minutes. Now that your potatoes have cooled down, it is time to peel. Cut the potatoes into medium sized pieces and aside in a medium sized baking dish.

It is now time to make the candy sauce!!

In a skillet place one stick of butter over medium heat. Once the butter is melted, pour in the ingredients. Stir everything together and drizzle with salt and black pepper.

Pour candy sauce over the sweet potatoes and place them in the oven at 450 degrees for 45 minutes or until fork soft.
